FORT MYERS, Fla. --- A case of road rage, that put a man behind bars.
Kristee Barres tell WINK News she was just trying to defend her friend, when Eric Montez ran her over early Thursday morning.
Witnesses at the scene told WINK News it was terrifying.
"I was just getting gas and next thing I know I see two ladies getting run over," said Alexis Johnson.
Barres is recovering from her injuries, saying she's in too much pain to talk on camera.
Deputies say her alleged attacker, Montez, was driving his 7 year old daughter to school, when he almost hit a jogger.
The jogger tapped Montez's PT cruiser as he passed, which allegedly set Montez off.
Investigators say Montez got out of his car and punched the jogger several times.
Barres told WINK News, that's when she stepped in, asking Montez to stop.
Deputies say he got back into his car, drove toward Barres, knocking her to the ground.
Barres' mother in law, Lorraine McDaniel, ran after him.
Montez reversed his car, running McDaniel over.
Deputies say Montez drove to his home a few blocks away, dropped his daughter off, and came back.
He's now behind bars.
Montez has prior criminal charges, including carrying a concealed weapon and drug possession.
Neighbors say people in the area call him "Crazy Eric."
DCF is investigating. They have not had prior contact with the Montez family.
Hit and run suspet Eric Montez, 28, will make his first court appearance Friday morning on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of battery.
According to a report obtained by WINK News, deputies say Montez was driving his 7-year-old daughter to school down Kingston Dr. near Palm Beach Blvd just before 9 a.m. Thursday. Allegedly, Montez got too close to a jogger with his car, so the jogger tapped Montez's hood.
Depties say after that, Montez got out of his car and allegeldy started punching the jogger in the face. Two women, ages 52 and 33, saw the alleged attack and told Montez they were calling the police.
According to a press release, Montez then got back in his car and hit one women with the front of his car and then reversed over the second. Both women are still in the hospital, one in critical condition.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office says Montez then left the scene to drop his daughter off at home, grabbed his cell phone and returned to the scene where he was arrested.
