CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police arrested 33-year-old Tariq Khan yesterday after they say he pointed a firearm at them near the 2200 block of Del Prado Blvd.

Initially, a victim called 911 stating that he was walking through the alley when an unknown subject, later identified as Khan, approached him from the rear of a residence. Khan reportedly appeared intoxicated, screaming and waving around a firearm. The victim said he was afraid when Khan pointed the firearm in his direction. That's when the victim fled on foot and called the police.

While speaking to the victim, Officers saw a male in the alley that matched the description provided by the victim. The victim confirmed Khan was the suspect. Officers (in full uniform) made contact with the suspect and approached him,  announcing themselves as police with their firearms drawn. Khan allegedly took a "low ready" stance and pointed his firearm in one officer's direction before lowering it.

The officers gave several commands for the subject to drop his firearm, but they said he suddenly ran back to the rear lanai area of a residence, just off of the alley (later determined to be the subject's own residence). According to police, Khan appeared to put the gun down and then came back out, continuing to yell and scream at officers on scene.

After several attempts to gain cooperation from Khan, an officer conducted a controlled takedown and took him into custody. Khan was later transported to the Cape Coral ER for treatment, and then to Lee County jail without further incident.

Khan faces charges of  Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault on LEO, Use of a Firearm While Under the Influence (x2), and Resisting an Officer.
