FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Police Department is investigating a deadly crash at the intersection of Veronica S. Shoemaker Blvd. and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

According to police, just before 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, 69-year-old Bobby Lee Bush tried to cross Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and was hit by a garbage truck. He died on the scene.

Bush was found at fault for not crossing within the designated crosswalk. Bush’s dark clothing and the inclement weather were factors in the accident. The vehicle's driver will not be cited or charged.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard was closed westbound at Veronica S. Shoemaker Boulevard while the accident was being investigated. It has since reopened.
