LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A former Estero High School teacher, accused of having sex with a student, has turned himself in.
WINK News told you about the investigation regarding Dominic Frank last month, but didn't release his name because he wasn't in custody.
The 25-year-old made his first appearance before a judge Tuesday morning, where he was granted bail.
And this is where investigators said Frank had sex with an underage high school student. Neighbors tell WINK News they can't believe something like this happened just a few houses away.
"At this house, oh my gosh, that's crazy. I rarely saw him come outside."
Frank, a former Spanish teacher at Estero High School, surrendered to deputies Tuesday night. He's now charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor. According to an arrest report, after the teen had a fight with her parents, Frank picked her up, took her to his house, where they had sex. The girl told investigators she stayed the night, then Frank drove her back to her home early the following morning, while her parents were still asleep.
"Being a teacher, you should be professional and not do anything like that, it's actually kinda disgusting to me."
The victim told investigators she pressured Frank into talking to her, even adding him as a friend on Facebook. She claims he told her he "Can't wait til I turn 18 so we can have a relationship."
WINK News asked the school district if there are any rules about teachers and students on social media. Turns out, no. According to policy, "The District does not have any jurisdiction over a teacher's personal social media account."
Bottom line, the District said it cannot tell teachers what they can and can't do on social media. WINK News has confirmed the school principal, who's related to Frank through a marriage, fired him last month.
As a condition of his release, Frank is not to have contact with the victim and cannot have any unsupervised visits with minors.
