FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police arrested a total of 18 people, including eight for driving under the influence, and issued 25 traffic citations during a sobriety checkpoint on Friday.

The checkpoint was held at the intersection of Winkler Avenue and Center Point Drive. Over 500 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

Donte Lopez, 31, was arrested during the checkpoint for the following:

Trafficking in Heroin (54 grams)Possession of Cocaine (13 grams)Possession of Marijuana (10 grams)Possession of Methamphetamine (10 molly pills)Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

FMPD received assistance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Cape Coral Police Department, Lee County Port Authority, Naples Police Department, Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol.
