NORTH PORT, Fla.- North Port Police arrested a 47-year-old Port Charlotte man who allegedly communicated with undercover detectives for days, thinking he was making arrangements to meet up for sex with a 3-year-old boy and a 9-year-old special needs female.
According to police, Paul Andrew Vangelder began to communicate with them on Valentine's Day via Craigslist and assumed he was talking the fictitious children's parent. In the arrest report, police say Vangelder detailed obscene things he wanted to do with each of the children.
Vangelder traveled to the City of North Port in hopes to perform sex acts at a location planned and coordinated by the undercover sergeant. Upon his arrival, he was met by officers and taken into custody without incident.
Vangelder faces the following charges:
Attempted Sexual Battery on a Victim under 12 (2 Counts)
Use/allow Child to Engage in Sex (2 Counts)
Possession of Image/Video of Sex Performance by a Child
Use of Computer to Solicit Parent Guardian Consent (2 Counts)
Traveling to Meet/Use Computer to Solicit Guardian (2 Counts)
Conspire: Criminal Attempt/Solicit/Conspire (2 Counts)
