PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- The Punta Gorda Police Department arrested two Punta Gorda residents Friday and are still searching for a third, accused of robbery and aggravated battery, after originally responding to an EMS call for an injured person at the 7 Palms of Punta Gorda apartment complex.

Upon arrival, officers quickly learned the victim had been robbed and was subsequently badly beaten.

The victim, a 17-year-old juvenile from Port Charlotte, immediately advised the officers that he knew two of three perpetrators responsible for the Robbery and Battery. He described the other individual as a “muscular black male.” He further stated “Destannee set [him] up,” referring to 18-year-old Destannee Shannay Mahoney.

Punta Gorda Police Officers immediately responded to Mahoney’s residence, locating her and a 17-year-old female. Police said they both voluntarily responded to police headquarters where they both provided post-Miranda confessions to police detectives admitting to planning and executing the robbery along with 22-year-old Clayton Stuarts. They also allegedly confessed to hitting and kicking the victim while they committed the robbery. Mahoney reportedly confessed to luring the victim to a predetermined location where the juvenile female and Stuarts were waiting to attack.

The victim reported cash, a cell phone and some marijuana stolen from him during the robbery.

The suspects were charged with Aggravated Battery, due to the severity of the injuries the victim sustained during the robbery. The victim was subsequently transported to Bayfront Port Charlotte for treatment.

Punta Gorda Police Detectives are actively looking for Stuarts, who is the third suspect involved in the Robbery and Aggravated Battery.
