LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Crime Stoppers tips and cooperation of the suspect himself, led to the arrest of the man accused of stealing an 80-year-old woman's purse on January 27th. Terry Cartright, 50, was arrested at his North Fort Myers home at 12:10 this afternoon.
Shortly after the surveillance photos were published, several anonymous tips came in identifying Cartright as the suspect. However those tips were followed up by a phone call from Cartright directly to the Sheriff’s Office, stating that he was the man in the photos.
Cartright told detectives that he thought the purse belonged to someone else, which is why he removed it from the cart.
He was charged with grand theft and is currently enroute to the Lee County Jail for booking.
According to SWFL Crime Stoppers, this is Cartright’s 17th arrest in Lee County since 1988. Included on his criminal dossier are charges of DUI, burglary, dealing in stolen property, battery, drug possession, eluding officers, contempt, violation of a domestic violence injunction for protection and driving with a suspended license.
