PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Two people were arrested outside of Walmart, located on Jones Loop Rd., Sunday evening, after it was discovered they were allegedly in possession of a vehicle stolen from Dothan, Alabama.
Randy Norman, 40, and Tynisha Norman, 31, were arrested around 7:00 p.m.
According to the arrest report, a Walmart Asset protection Employee reported a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot that had been there since the night before. The employee described the vehicle in question as a new model, lime green, 4-door Ford.
A man and woman had been seen on surveillance with the vehicle, and walking in and out of the store. The two had slept in the vehicle overnight.
A deputy ran the Alabama license plate and discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen. He then confirmed this with the Dothan Police Department.
Another deputy had seen the suspects walking on Jones Loop Rd., toward area restaurants. One deputy waited by the vehicle, while the other went to check out the restaurants. In the meantime, the deputy heading toward the restaurants spotted the two walking back to Walmart.
As the two approached the vehicle and spotted the deputy waiting for them, they reportedly cursed and turned in the opposite direction. The deputy was able to apprehend them and told them they were being detained due to an ongoing investigation. The couple had Illinois drivers licenses, and said they were working with the Tampa State Fair, but live in Illinois. They claimed the green vehicle belonged to them. At that time, they were both arrested for grand theft of a motor vehicle.
Inside the vehicle, the deputy found heroin, used syringes and drug paraphernalia. The heroin appeared to be packaged to sell, due to the amount and way it was packaged.
The vehicle was towed and the couple was transported to the Charlotte County Jail.
