CAPE CORAL, Fla.- An intoxicated man allegedly shot at Cape Coral Police Officers who were handling a disturbance at the Crossings Apartments, on Hancock Creek Boulevard, early Monday morning.
Frank Affronti Sr., 52, face two counts of assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and one count of Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon.
Officers responded to 1152 Hancock Creek Boulevard, apartment #303, on a physical disturbance. While speaking to one of the parties in the parking lot, officers were advised that subjects in the apartment had weapons.
Officers approached the apartment and made contact with Affronti Sr. and his adult son, Frank Affronti Jr.
While officers conversed with the son regarding the disturbance, Affronti Sr. went inside his apartment and began yelling obscenities through the apartment door at officers. He then reportedly yelled to his son, "If they do what they came here to do, I'll get them." The son, attempted to calm his father through the door, but Affronti Sr. yelled, "Why are you protecting them?"
Seconds later, three gunshots rang out as bullets penetrated the apartment door. Officers got the son to safety, and took up positions of cover outside of the apartment. A brief verbal exchange began between officers on scene and Affronti. Affronti was ordered to come out of the apartment. He complied, crawling out of the apartment on his hands and knees. Affronti was transported to Cape Coral Police Department for processing then later to Lee County Jail in apparent good health.
