LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A local Pop Warner football coach was arrested yesterday on drug charges.

Deputies arrested 33-year-old David Leon Palmer after intercepting a package with more than 6 lbs. of marijuana that was sent to his house at 3031 38th St. SW in Lehigh Acres from Washington state.

Detectives to set up a perimeter in the neighborhood yesterday, and while doing so, observed a suspicious vehicle depart the area quickly. The vehicle approached an intersection and rolled through it without stopping. A traffic stop was initiated. As the deputy approached the vehicle, he could smell marijuana coming from within the vehicle. A search located marijuana inside. Palmer, the driver of the vehicle, was detained on a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana.

A search warrant was served at the house in Lehigh Acres. The investigation reveals a female had accepted the package at the door.

Based on information and evidence obtained at the Lehigh Acres residence, a second search warrant was served at David Palmer’s primary residence located at 3635 Pine Oaks Circle #103. Detectives uncovered evidence including marijuana packaged for sale, cocaine and MDMA. Approximately $25,000 cash was recovered from within the house and approximately $4,500 cash was located on Palmer. All cash was seized as well as a brand new 70’ flat screen television.

Palmer was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana under 20 grams and Possession of Marijuana with intent to sell.

The investigation continues and additional charges may be pending.
