PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- A Port Charlotte man and woman were arrested Wednesday morning on several drug and weapons charges during the execution of a search warrant at their house.

Narcotics detectives arrested Randall Lee Bess, 39, and Lynda Joanna Brown, 30, both of 3503 Pinetree Street, when the SWAT team executed a search warrant at that address.

The detectives had obtained the search warrant earlier this month based on an on-going investigation at the house. After the SWAT team made entry into the residence, they found Bess and Brown in one of the bedrooms. They were brought outside the house while it was being searched.

During the search of the room where Bess and Brown were found, detectives located a .38 caliber handgun with some ammunition, various items that contained pieces and residue of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, a substance that tested positive for synthetic cannabinoids and two pills identified as Carisoprodol, a Schedule IV narcotic.

Brown was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Carisoprodol, Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoids, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Violation of Probation. She was being held on a $17,000 bond.

Bess was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Carisoprodol, Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoids, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Bess was also charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Oxycodone, Possession of Marijuana and five counts of Possession of Paraphernalia on a warrant issued for an incident that occurred in June 2013. Bess was also being held on a total $46,000 bond.

In that incident, Bess is alleged to have been riding a motorcycle in the area of Veterans Blvd. and Cochran Blvd. when what was initially thought to be a wallet fell from his rear pocket. Two women in a nearby vehicle picked up with ‘wallet’ and started to take it to the nearest Sheriff’s Office District Office at the Town Centre Mall. When they checked to see if there was any identification in the ‘wallet’, they found it was actually a black zippered bag that contained what appeared to be illegal drugs.

The man on the motorcycle returned to the area and began yelling and following at the women. They called the Sheriff’s Office for assistance and continued to drive and stay in public areas until deputies arrived. The man on the motorcycle drove away.

A short time afterward, deputies located a man on a motorcycle that matched the description given by the women. That man was identified as Randall Lee Bess.

The contents of the zippered bag were later determined to be Cocaine, Marijuana and three Oxycodone pills. After further investigations, detectives developed probable cause for Bess’ arrest and obtained the warrant.
