COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- The Collier County Sheriff's Office arrested Jose Caballero, 34, of Tampa, for possession of marijuana Wednesday after he was allegedly caught on Alligator Alley with 9.5 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.
Deputies stopped Caballero's black Honda Passport truck at mile marker 99, for illegally tinted windows. When they approached the vehicle, they smelled marijuana coming from it, and saw a gift bag and two garbage bags in the back seat.
Deputies say Caballero was extremely nervous, breathing heavy and sweating profusely.
During a search of the truck, deputies found Ziplock bags and heat-sealed bags filled with marijuana. According to his arrest report, Caballero spontaneously said he was sorry.
The value of the marijuana seized totalled $28,500.
Caballero was transported to the Naples Jail, where his bond was set at $11,000.
