CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police arrested a 21-year-old Punta Gorda man for allegedly holding a mother and her 12-year-old son at gunpoint in a home invasion robbery on Thursday.
Police say Jared Penner and a masked man entered the home on the 2100 block of SE 15th Place, just after midnight on Thursday, and left with cash and electronics.
The victim told 911 dispatchers the suspects got away in a light blue Chrysler 300. Police stopped a Chrysler 300 that did not have its headlights on, and questioned the three occupants of the vehicle. The victim was brought to the scene, where she positively identified Penner as one of the suspects, but could not identify the second man, since his face had been masked.
A necklace belonging to the victim was spotted in the vehicle where Penner had been sitting. Penner denied all allegations, but a locket also belonging to the victim was found in his pocket during the search. Police then found a $2 bill on him and said $2 bills had been stolen from the victim during the robbery. Finally, another necklace belonging to the victim was seen in plain view on the center console.
All three occupants of the vehicle gave police conflicting accounts of where they had been that evening.
The investigation continues.
