LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) - The search is on for a possible suspsect after deputies say a man and woman were shot early Sunday morning. The two were found miles apart, but are believed to be connected to the same shooting in the 4800 block of Hager Court in Lee County around 3:30 Sunday morning.
Authorities identify the male victim as Andres Lopez, 33, of Cape Coral. The female victim remains hospitalized in stable condition. Her name is not being released at this time.
Crime scene tape and flashing lights filled the Harlem Heights neighborhood Sunday morning after deputies say shots rang out just after 3:30.
"She heard a bunch of people running, she heard a bunch of noises, a lot of people crying, she didn't know what happened," says neighbor, Karen Jahuey.
"When I got up this morning out of bed, that's when I saw the police cars," says another neigbor.
Investigators say the first call came from the female shooting victim herself. They say she was driving, suffering from a gunshot wound, and trying to get medical attention. The woman crashed her car near the McGregor Woods Community. While deputies respsonded, they discovered the shots rang out three miles away at Hager Court.
"We were also to find out that another subject had been shot, he was in front of a residence here on Hager Court," says Lt. Larry King with the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say the woman was taken to the trauma center at Lee Memorial where she is in stable condition. Lopez died on the way to the hospital.
"It's nothing new, this always happens, a lot of crime... I feel sorry for the people," a neighbor added.
Right now, deputies do not know the relationship between Lopez and the woman. They're asking for anyone with information to call crimestoppers.
