NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A 28-year-old man accused of stealing a North Miami Beach patrol car from the department's parking lot says he "just wanted to drive around for a little bit."
Stalyn Enrique Hernandez also got a free trip to the Miami-Dade County Jail, where he remained early Tuesday on grand theft charges.
Police say the vehicle "may have been unlocked" with the key inside when Hernandez took it Sunday afternoon.
In his report, Officer Felipe Hernandez - who is not believed to be related to the suspect - wrote that he initially asked if any other officers had taken the vehicle.
The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1af8HOP ) reports officers set out to find the vehicle. They spotted Stalyn Hernandez, who told them he just wanted to go for a drive.
