PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- A 54-year-old Hialeah man was arrested Sunday afternoon after calling 911 because he wanted a ride.
Shortly after noon Sunday, a deputy, who was initially dispatched to the area of Cortland Avenue and Tinker Street in Port Charlotte because a stop sign was supposed to be down, was told that the caller said he had been involved in a crash at that location and had been run over by a vehicle. The deputy changed to an emergency response to the call and an ambulance and the Fire Department were also dispatched.
When the deputy arrived, he found Jose Manuel Vazquez standing in the street. The stop sign at the intersection was in place and was not damaged. When the deputy asked Vazquez where he was injured, Vazquez said he wasn’t injured; he just needed a taxi and he wanted the deputy to get there quickly.
Vazquez was arrested on charges of Misuse of the 911 or E911 System and transported to the Charlotte County Jail. He was being held on $1,000 bond.
