LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Lee County Sheriff's deputies are handing down hefty citations for drivers running red lights as part of their "National Stop on Red Week" (August 4-10).

Any driver found in violation faces a $259 citation and 4 points on their license.

LCSO's Safe Mobility for Life Coalition has partnered with the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Coalition to help promote pedestrian safety during this week.

In an effort to promote safety for pedestrians of all ages, Florida's Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Coalition is partnering with Florida's Safe Mobility for Life Coalition to encourage motorists to "Always Stop on Red."

National Stop on Red Week, August 4-10, 2013, is an annual event geared towards decreasing red light running. The goal of the two Florida Coalitions is to promote pedestrian safety by educating motorists and pedestrians on their personal responsibility as they approach signalized intersections.
