CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Catherine Delany, 42, was arrested for stealing proceeds intended for the purchase of a home.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit began investigating Delany after they received a complaint from her victim who advised that he hired Delany’s company to purchase a foreclosed home in Lehigh Acres. Delany was given a check from the victim in the amount of $55,000.
The investigation discovered that after unsuccessfully bidding for the foreclosed home, the victim requested his money back. Delaney refused to return the funds as she had cashed the victims check and used the money for her personal gain.
Delany was charged Grand Theft from a person over 65 years of age and First Degree Scheme to Defraud.
