ESTERO, Fla.- A former mobile home park office manager has been arrested after an investigation revealed she stole more than $4,500 from park residents.

Tammy Berryhill, 50, is charged with Grand Theft.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Berryhill on August 29, 2012 after receiving a complaint from a resident from Covered Wagon Mobil Home Park located at 21450 South Tamiami Trail.

The investigation revealed that a resident went to the office to make advanced payments on rent for several months with a check. The check was signed over to Berryhill, who was the office manager. Berryhill was supposed to apply the check to the victim’s account and give them a receipt. Berryhill claimed the computers were down and could not provide the victim with a receipt at that time.

New management took over the park on August 1, 2012 and notified the victim that his account was past due. The victim requested a copy of the check that was signed over to Berryhill and it was discovered that Berryhill made it payable to herself and deposited it into her personal account.

Further investigation revealed that Berryhill collected more than $4,577 from twelve additional tenants, and instead of crediting their accounts, simply pocketed the money.
