FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested Caleb Hicks, 18, and Brett Leitner, 19, on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a vehicle and setting it on fire behind an elementary school.
Deputies were called to the victim's home just after 2:00 a.m., in reference to a stolen vehicle. The victim told them he was in a verbal argument with Hicks, when he asked the suspect to leave his property. Moments later, the victim stepped outside to find his white, 2008, Ford F250 was missing.
He was informed Hicks may be in the company of Leitner.
Just before 10:00 a.m., deputies responded to a vehicle fire behind Harns Marsh Elementary School. The fire department also responded to extinguish the fire. It was discovered that the burned vehicle was the victim's missing Ford F250, and that the fire had been intentionally set.
At 3:45 p.m., detectives met with Hicks at the Riverdale Shopping Center, who agreed to meet them on his own free will. There, he confessed to the crimes.
Based on the investigation, both Hicks and Leitner were arrested for Grand Theft Auto and Arson.
