CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police arrested former Lee County Sheriff's deputy and Punta Gorda Police officer Friday in connection to an iPad theft from Walmart, located on 1619 S. Del Prado Blvd.
Security footage recorded Gina Wiseley prying at a secured display case in the electronics, removing a white 16g iPad, and hiding it under a towel in her shopping cart. Later, footage showed her leaving the store without a receipt for the iPad.
According to her arrest report, Wiseley stated she had no recollection of stealing the iPad. Wiseley said she takes numerous medications that cause her to black out and the theft of the iPad must have happened during one of those notorious episodes. When she discovered the stolen item in her car, she turned herself in to Cape Coral Police, where she was arrested for retail theft, and also charged with two counts of criminal mischief for damaging the security case that held the iPad.
Wiseley was fired from the Lee County Sheriff's Office in 2004 for causing damage while chipping golf balls in the agency's major crimes unit area. She was a detective at the time.
Wiseley was rehired in 2005, but resigned less than two months later during an internal investigation into a video online of her dancing naked in Fantasy Fest 2001.
In 2007, she was fired by the Punta Gorda Police department after an internal affairs investigation determined she twice disobeyed orders not to discuss an investigation into the viewing of the tape by other officers, a spokesman said at the time.
