LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Madison Schiel, 18, was arrested for DUI manslaughter on Wednesday for her role in a deadly crash that happened last year in Cape Coral. Police say Schiel was driving under the influence in the October crash that killed Gilian Crosdale.
Schiel is now facing charges of vehicular manslaughter. The Punta Gorda teen was booked into the Lee County jail with a bond of $50,000. She bonded out the same day.
Back in October, Schiel slammed into 63-year-old Gillion Crosdale's vehicle at the intersection of Andalusia Boulevard and NE 12th Street in Cape Coral. Crosdale's car went flying through a field before plunging in to a canal. The woman was submerged for 10 minutes before divers pulled her out. Crosdale was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition. She later died of her injuries.
At the time of the crash, Cape Coral Police believed Schiel was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Police conducted a criminal investigation into the crash and determined that Scheil in fact was under the influence.
Schiel is scheduled to appear in Lee County court this coming Monday.
