LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested Thomas Harris, 33, for registered sex offender violations, after he allegedly attempted to gain parental consent in a chat room for sex with a young child.

The prosecutor's office of Bergen County, New Jersey contacted LCSO in March of this year after they had an officer pose as a woman with a 6-year-old child on "" from November to 2012 until January 2013. During conversations with Harris in the chat room, he allegedly told the undercover officer he was a sex offender and declared his interest in having sex with children. Their conversation then moved to Yahoo! Instant Messenger, and printed excerpts, much too graphic for publication here, were forwarded to LCSO.

In April of 2005 and February of 2010, Harris was convicted of offenses qualifying him as a sex offender. In February of this year, Harris completed an FDLE registration, with the permanent address of 309 Paddock St., agreeing to 16 requirements. One of those requirements states the offender must report any e-mail addresses or instant message screen names used.

Based on this information, Harris was arrested on Tuesday for using a computer to solicit parental consent and for failing to report his instant messenger name.
