BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested 38-year-old Julie Rocha-Garcia just before midnight on Sunday for allegedly lying to 911 operators to spite her boyfriend.
Rocha-Garcia allegedly called 911, saying her boyfriend was threatening her with a gun. As deputies approached the home, located on the 27000 block of Lost Woods Circle, a man matching the description given by the caller walked down the driveway with his hands up. Another man was with him. Both were ordered to the ground by deputies. Neither had a gun in their possession. Officers learned the second man was a neighbor who had been called for help. He was released.
Deputies spoke with Rocha-Garcia, who said her boyfriend had closed the garage door on her leg during an argument. She told officers there was no gun, but that she told the 911 operator that to get help faster.
Her boyfriend told deputies Rocha-Garcia had been drinking and was outside causing a scene, so he told her to come inside. He said he then pressed the automatic garage door button, at which time Rocha-Garcia slid underneath it. Her leg was struck by the door. She went inside where the argument continued. Rocha-Garcia's boyfriend said she then picked up the phone saying, "Watch this," before dialing 911. She proceeded to cry to the operator while making false allegations against her boyfriend, and holding up her middle finger at him. He said he then went next door for help.
Deputies were unable to find any signs of struggle between the suspect and her boyfriend.
A man's voice could be heard during some of the 911 recording.
Rocha-Garcia agreed to be interviewed by detectives and was subsequently arrested for misusing the 911 system.
