FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police arrested two individuals and seized more than $5,000 in drugs after being called to the Brittany Apartments early Thursday morning.
Just before 4:00 a.m. FMPD responded to 4024 Winkler Avenue Extension, unit 204, in reference about a man with a gun. A subject was observed walking around the exterior of the apartment building and holding the gun in a threatening manner and appeared to be upset and delusional. Officers located the subject in apartment 204 and conducted a protective sweep to make sure the other occupants of the residence were safe. During that sweep, officers saw drugs and guns in plain view.
Officers established that all occupants were safe and, due to the drugs observed, contacted the Special Investigations Group to investigate further. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and conducted a search of the apartment as part of their investigation.
Detectives arrested 22-year-old Joshua Arocha for Reckless Display of a Firearm, Possession of MDMA with the Intent to Sell, Possession of Methamphetamine with the Intent to Sell and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and 25-year-old Luis Yanes for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Sell and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Detectives seized 246 grams of marijuana, 11 grams of MDMA, packaging materials, empty capsules used to distribute MDMA, scales, 1 gram of crystal methamphetamine, a Ruger 380 caliber semi-automatic handgun and a Springfield Arms 45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
The street value of the drugs seized was approximately $5,500.
