PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office raided three marijuana grow houses in Port Charlotte, yielding three arrests, and seizing 351 pounds of marijuana. It was all part of "Operation Green House."
On March 1st, deputies raided a grow house on Bly Ave. That arrest led deputies to these three grow houses. In all, more than 700 pounds of drugs, a $2.6 million street value, were seized.
Sheriff Prummell says deputies found special air conditioning systems, irrigation equitment, grow lights chemicals and the marijuana plants. He says in one house, the entry to it was through a pantry.
Yoanna Garcia, 27, of 1301 Hinton Street, was arrested for Cultivating Marijuana and Trafficking in Marijuana.
Lanier Lugones Calderon, 24, of 3172 Normandy Drive, was arrested for Cultivating in Marijuana, Trafficking in Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Martha Lahera Estrada, 43, of 2315 Lee Terrace, was arrested for Cultivating in Marijuana and Trafficking in Marijuana.
Sheriff Prummell believe this is part of a much larger drug operation that spans several jurisdictions, but that these busts are already making things safer in Charlotte County. He says so far, compared to this time last year, the number of burglaries and thefts has decreased in the county.
