COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Collier County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested an East Naples woman in connection with her husband's death Monday night.

Deputies were called to the 760 Provincetown Drive home of 72-year-old Jack Johns and 68-year-old Helen Hope Johns, shortly before 11:00 p.m. at the request of a concerned out-of-state relative. When they arrived, they located Helen at the front door in the screen porch, and the body of Jack inside the home, on the living room floor.

"I woke up this morning and saw all these cars and then I heard that he's dead. Hard to believe," said Lois Bournstine.

Officers say Jack was shot in the chest, and that there were signs of a struggle. They found a handgun on the hospital-style bed that was in the living room, near the victim. Deputies found a suspected bullet hole in the television and another in the china cabinet in the dining room.

"I was shocked, i was shocked because they're such a nice couple, but he was very sick," said Elke Sieling.

Neighbors say they're shocked. Lois Bournstine lives near the Jacks and has known them for years. She says Mrs. Jacks was a devoted wife.

"Oh my god, such love, she's always taking care of him," said Bournstine.

Helen was booked into the Collier County jail Tuesday morning on a charge of second-degree murder. She requested several times to have her blood drawn and tested for "anything in her system."

The investigation continues.
