LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested 29-year-old Ryan James Watkins on aggravated battery charges Sunday afternoon, after he allegedly struck a man in the face with a chainsaw.
The victim and his girlfriend told officers Watkins grabbed the Stihl chainsaw and hit him across the face, below the eyes, at their residence on the 1100 block of East 17th St. They continued in saying when the girlfriend attempted to intervene, Watkins shoved her to ground, causing an abrasion on her knee. The two had wounds consistent with their story.
The victim said he was out with Watkins and some friends when he realized he has forgotten his ID, and asked to be driven back. Watkins refused, so the victim walked back to his house. It was there that he was allegedly confronted by Watkins' brother. The victim said the confrontation was unprovoked, and that he was unaware of what had angered him. At that time, Watkins allegedly picked up the chainsaw and swung at him. The victim sustained several wounds to his face, one of which needed stitches.
Watkins was detained. The victims were taken to Lehigh Regional Hospital.
