CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police Detectives arrested a 16-year-old Ronald Eugene Ashley IIIon Thursday, in connection with a home invasion robbery on SW 3rd Ave. that happened in January. He allegedly confessed to the crime.

On Tuesday January 29th, the victim was on his patio when two masked subjects stormed his house. The suspects pointed a semi-automatic pistol at him and demanded he open his safe. During the robbery, a struggle ensued and the homeowner was pistol-whipped by one of the suspects.

The suspects fled the scene with approximately $20,000 in cash and rare silver coins among other items.

A neighborhood canvass revealed surveillance video from a neighbor of a dark colored Nissan Armada casing the area before the robbery and leaving the neighborhood after the crime. Detectives went to work developing suspects and eventually developed the Ashley as the suspect.

The result of surveillance and witness interviews established probable cause for the Ashley's arrest. He has been charged with Home Invasion Robbery and Aggravated Battery. Detectives are still investigating and searching for the second suspect.
