LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- Three men are accused in a drive-by shooting that left one person injured, just after midnight on Monday. Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested 18-year-old Angel Salome, 21-year-old Robert Lopez and 19-year-old Dany Borges-Matos at the conclusion of the investigation. Salome was allegedly wearing a bulletproof vest at the time of the incident.
Lee County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 700 block of Roma Avenue South, after reports of multiple shots being fired in the area. The victim told deputies he was at a house party when a white, four-door vehicle drove by and opened fire. The victim was shot in the leg.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area on a speeding vehicle matching the description. Firearms and ammunition were in plain view inside the vehicle, according to the arrest report. The three occupants were taken in for questioning. A bulletproof vest was later found inside the vehicle. The victim positively identified that vehicle as the one being involved in the shooting.
Officers later recovered 10 spent shell casings from the street near where the shooting occurred, consistent with information given during interviews with the suspects.
Based upon the entire investigation, all three occupants of the vehicle were arrested for battery with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. Salome was additionally charged with the commission of a felony for his part in wearing the bulletproof vest.
