COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Tyler Perry will hold a press conference on Thursday morning in Naples to announce major next steps for the missing person investigations of Terrance Williams and Felipe Santos. Eight years ago, Williams and Santos went missing after encountering Collier County Deputy, Steven Calkins.
Reverend Al Sharpton of the National Action Network(NAN) and Ben Jealous President and CEO of the NAACP will join Perry making a national call to action. Cases such as these highlight a growing concern about the lack of media coverage when it comes to missing person cases involving people of color.
According to the National Crime Investigation Center, each year there are between 750,000 to 850,000 reports of missing children and adults combined. Most cases that remain unsolved are made up of foul play and proven or believed to be a homicide.
