CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police have made an arrest in a homicide investigation that began this morning at 1134 SW 16th Terrace.
Police responded to a death investigation at 1134 SW 16th Terrace after receiving a call from Thomas Verzi Jr. of Orlando, wanting officers to check the welfare of his father, Thomas Verzi Sr., along with his brother Baron Verzi who both lived at the home.
Thomas Jr. told police that Baron was acting strangely on the phone and would not let Thomas Jr. speak with their father.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 17-year-old Baron Verzi at the home with blood on his clothing and suffering from apparent stab wounds to his arm and leg. Officers then found Thomas Verzi Sr. lying on the floor of the family room in a pool of blood with apparent stab wounds. Thomas Verzi Sr., 69, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baron Verzi was transported to Cape Coral Hospital for treatment for his injuries. Detectives from the Cape Coral Police Major Crimes Unit responded to the hospital and interviewed Baron Verzi about the incident. Baron Verzi confessed to detectives that he stabbed his father earlier this morning after the two had argued. Barron left the home and drove around for a short while, stopped for gas and eventually returned to the home. Baron told detectives that he saw the scene and began to stab himself. Shortly after, Thomas Verzi Jr. called and became concerned, prompting him to call Cape Coral Police.
Detectives placed Baron Verzi under arrest for 2nd degree murder and transported him to the Lee County Juvenile Assessment Center at the Lee County Jail.
