PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Port Charlotte father and son following a Saturday morning stabbing incident. Rodney Lane McGee, 42, of 1245 Oxsalida Avenue was stabbed and later charged with Burglary with a Battery; his 40th booking at the Charlotte County Jail. His son, Troy Shane McGee, 22, of 20564 Augusta Avenue, was charged with Resisting an Officer; this is his 12th booking.
Deputies responded to a disturbance call at 6:58 a.m. at Troy’s Augusta Avenue home and learned that he had stabbed his father multiple times in self-defense. The father was transported by Charlotte County EMS to Lee Memorial Hospital Trauma Center. Troy was taken to Peace River Regional Medical Center by EMS due to injuries received from his father.
When deputies arrived, Troy came out of the home and walked past his bleeding father. Troy was instructed to show his hands and walk toward them. He walked past deputies and reached into his pants pockets, concealing his left hand from view. One deputy said Troy was known to him from previous arrests to carry multiple knives on his person and feared he was concealing another weapon. A deputy took hold of Troy who began resisting and was taken to the ground. Troy continued to resist and kick at officers, concealing his hands. When Troy attempted to bite a deputy he was drive stunned with a Taser. As deputies began to handcuff Troy, he resisted again and continued to kick at officers and conceal his right hand. A second Taser drive stun was used and deputies were finally able to gain control. EMS arrived and took Troy to the hospital. Detectives talked to Troy at the hospital to obtain his statement. He was treated and released, then arrested for resisting and taken to jail.
Deputies talked to three witnesses in the home who all stated Rodney came to the house, began beating on the door, and forcefully entered. Rodney began to argue with Troy over wanting to pick up one of the women in the home to go to work with him. Troy said his father appeared intoxicated and started destroying his bathroom. Troy said his father struck him in the head with a metal towel holder; he grabbed a knife and was able to get his father out of his home. Rodney then kicked in the same side door, grabbed a wooden chair inside, and struck Troy with it as he tried to call 9-1-1 for help. Troy responded by stabbing his father twice in the leg and once in the left arm with a 12-inch knife. Witnesses corroborated the account of what Troy said happened and that Troy was defending himself; his father was the aggressor.
Troy McGee was released on $1,000 bond. When Rodney McGee was released from the hospital, he was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on $25,000 bond.
