ENGLEWOOD EAST, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested an Englewood East woman after she stabbed a man at the intersection of Kidron Avenue and Flintlock Street around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Melissa Joanne Hughell, 35, of 10315 Kidron Avenue, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (knife).

CCSO deputies responded to a home in the 10300 block of Kidron Avenue regarding the stabbing. The victim was transported by a Bayflight helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital Trauma Unit with a stab wound to his abdomen. Detectives said the victim was visiting Hughell at her home where she and the victim got into an argument. Hughell told the victim to leave; there were two other men in her home who assisted Hughell in removing the victim from her home.

A neighbor said she observed the disturbance and saw the two men run after the victim; one was armed with a baseball bat. The witness said she saw the two men catch up to the victim and beat him with the bat causing serious injury. Hughell walked to the intersection and found the victim lying on the ground. The victim managed to stand up and Hughell pulled a knife from her pocket and stabbed him. Hughell then left the victim lying in the street and returned her home without calling CCSO or EMS. The victim did manage to walk to a home on Kidron Avenue where he received first aid until deputies and EMS arrived.

Hughell was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail where she remains on no bond. CCSO detectives are continuing their investigation to locate the two men involved in the case, and also meet with the victim at LMH in Ft. Myers.
