ENGLEWOOD, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested two men Tuesday for burglary and stealing items from four boats docked at Weston’s Resort, in Englewood. Stephen Thomas Sharpe, 24, of Polk City, and Robert Edwin Clinton, 43, of Gulf Cove, were arrested.
CCSO received four reports of the boat burglaries that occurred early Monday morning at the resort marina. Items stolen from three boats included eight fishing rods/reels; tackle box, cast net, landing net, filet knife, fish markers, and a trolling motor. Total value of all items stolen was$2,285. The fourth boat entered was the CCSO Marine Unit boat; however, nothing was stolen as all items were well secured.
Detectives in their investigation identified Sharpe and Clinton at those responsible for the four boat burglaries. Detectives said Sharpe sold several of the items to a man on Annapolis Lane in Rotonda who did not know they were stolen. CCSO obtained a search warrant for Clinton’s home and car and located numerous stolen items in both.
Sharpe and Clinton were arrested by detectives and taken to the Charlotte County Jail. Each is charged with four felony counts of Burglary to an Unoccupied Conveyance (boat), three counts of Grand Theft, and two counts of Dealing in Stolen Property. Both men remain in jail on no bond; both have been booked six times each and Clinton is a convicted felon.
