PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies responded to Punta Gorda Wal-Mart Thursday at 3:51 p.m. A man stole six DVD’s, exited, escaped from security, fled in a car, came back later, crashed it, fled on foot, returned clean shaven, tazed, arrested, and taken to jail. Eric Vinson Seifferlein, 34, of 2291 Picnic Street, and his girlfriend Tiffany Lynn Dawson, 25, of 6118 Golf Course Boulevard, who was with Seifferlein were both arrested for the crime.
Wal-Mart security gave deputies a very detailed description of the DVD thief with full beard and tattoos who drove off in a white Saturn. After the report was completed, security called deputies back and said the man in the Saturn drove back into the parking lot and then smashed into an 84 year old woman’s car, then fled on foot. When deputies arrived, Dawson was standing outside the Saturn.
A few minutes later, Seifferlein walked into the Wal-Mart parking lot from the Pilot gas station across the street on Jones Loop Road. He gave his name to deputies and said he was checking on his girlfriend. Seifferlein shaved his beard, ditched the hat and t-shirt at the gas station thinking no one would recognize him. Pilot employees saw him come in with a beard and exited from the restroom without it. However, security and the lady whose car was hit both identified Seifferlein anyway. The hat and t-shirt were recovered at the gas station later.
Seifferlein was arrested then became irate and very aggressive. He tried to kick and head butt a deputy and was taken to the ground. He kicked another deputy several times and a taser was deployed; he quit resisting. At that time, Dawson began yelling and screaming at deputies who tried to calm her down but she continued getting in a deputy’s face and it was believed she was about to spit in his face or attempt to head butt the officer. She was then arrested and placed in a patrol car. Deputies saw her talking on her cell phone and asked her to give it to them. She resisted and began to fight with the deputy and kicked him. She was put in leg restraints and taken to the Charlotte County Jail.
Seifferlein was charged with Battery on an Officer, Resisting an Officer with Violence, Petit Theft, Driving While License Suspended or Revoked, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, and two counts of Resisting an Officer by Disguise. He remains in jail on no bond; this is Seifferlein’s 10th booking. Dawson was charged with Battery on an Officer, Resisting an Officer with Violence, and Resisting an Office without Violence. She also remains in jail on no bond.
