PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff's arrested a Port Charlotte man after he was seen stealing dock lift motors. The witness working at an adjacent business called CCSO Thursday at 6:51 p.m. after he saw a man inside a docked boat in the 3400 block of Tamiami Trail. George Frank Figueroa Jr., 60, 3221 Easy Street, Port Charlotte.
The witness told deputies he saw Figueroa on the docked boat trying to remove one of the lift motors. Deputies caught Figueroa inside the boat and also saw two of the four dock lift motors were missing and drag marks across the dock. They also found a crowbar, ratchet and a wrench on the boat. A few feet from the dock was a small sledge hammer and a large wood piece used to pry up the boat to take parts from the boat lift.
Detectives checked the scrap metal database and located two lift motors that Figueroa had scrapped July 11 and 12 at a local recycling business. Detectives learned that this was the second visit to the same dock and boat to steal the lift parts. When presented with the evidence, Figueroa requested a lawyer.
Figueroa was transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on $15,000 bond. He was charged with two counts of Burglary to a Conveyance, two counts of Grand Theft, and one count for Dealing in Stolen Property.
