PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detective arrested a Punta Gorda air conditioner repairman for selling a fraudulent warranty to a Port Charlotte woman. Nathan Jon Sasse, 36, of 2611 Parisian Court was arrested for the crime.
On Apr. 13 CCSO received a call about a fraud and being scammed by Sasse. Deputies responded to the home at 23507 Dawn Avenue; the woman said she hired Unique Air to service her air conditioner last January. She asked Sasse about renewing or extending her appliance warranty with Sears. Sasse said he had a friend who could provide service warranties cheaper than Sears; he gave her a brochure with the company name of Service and Security Excellence (SASE).
On Jan. 26 Sasse went back to the victim’s home for further air conditioning work and she told him she decided to purchase the SASE warranty. She gave Sasse a $400 check and he told her she would receive a service agreement by e-mail in a few days. A few weeks later in February the victim got a call from a representative of Unique Air saying he found her name along with other customer’s names in Sasse’s truck. He asked her if she purchased an extended warranty from Sasse because Unique Air does not officer appliance warranties. The spokesperson for Unique Air said she may want to check her warranty she purchased from Sasse because it was more likely a scam. Sasse had been fired for reportedly stealing from his employer.
On May 22, detectives of the CCSO Economic Crimes Unit contacted the Florida Division of Corporations on the status of SASE and was told it was a “rejected filing” and returned Jan. 25 for corrections and never refiled. Detectives then contacted the Charlotte County Tax Collectors Office and tax records showed no listing for SASE. On June 14 ECU detectives contacted the Florida Department of Financial Services and was told home warranty sales are required to be licensed; SASE never had a license to sell warranties. ECU detectives said Sasse has also been arrested in Sarasota County on charges for stealing from his Unique Air and doing an installation in that county.
Tuesday, Sasse was arrested on charges of Grand Theft and violating Licensing Requirement to Sell Home Warranties. This is Sasse’s third booking; he posted a $3,500 bond and was released. If anyone has purchased a warranty from Sasse and his fake company SASE, please call the CCSO at 941-639-2101.
