LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Bokeelia woman Monday, after investigating a complaint accusing her of stealing $20,000 in tuition payments from Peppermint Tree Preschool, while working as the bookkeeper there.
A representative of the school believed that between May 2011 and March 2012, 34-year-old Kathryn Swafford removed the payments for personal use.
The representative told deputies that Swafford would accept payments from parents, enter payment amounts into the computer to generate a receipt, then delete the payment from the computer and pocket the money. The school was able to provide supporting documentation to prove this accusation.
Swafford faces grand theft and fraud charges.
