COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Naples Police arrested 36-year-old Francisco J. Cerna Olvera, of 5226 Hemingway Lane #2001 in Naples, on eight counts of burglary of a conveyance, four counts of grand theft and two counts of petit theft.
Olvera’s arrest was a result of the investigation of multiple daytime car burglaries reported within the City of Naples, between March and June 2012. Olvera generally targeted vehicles parked at the beach parking areas with valuables in plain view, and in most cases, would forcibly enter the vehicle by shattering a window with a baseball bat.
In one case, a victim parked her vehicle at the 7th Avenue North beach end. Upon returning to her vehicle, she observed a male subject inside her vehicle, and had confronted the suspect, before he fled the area. The victim observed the suspect leave the area in a van, and provided a partial tag of the vehicle. Later, officers were able to locate Olvera and his vehicle and he was positively identified by the victim as the person she observed inside her vehicle.
During the arrest of Olvera, officers located numerous items including; cellular telephones, portable GPS units, key fobs, electronic items, and personal identification, in his vehicle, that were reported stolen in 7 additional auto burglaries.
Subsequent to the arrest, Olvera confessed to committing the auto burglaries.
