PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff's Environmental Deputy arrested a Port Charlotte man Friday for illegally dumping 360 cubic feet of furniture and household trash on a vacant lot. Andrew James Schramm, 21, of 4411 Conway Boulevard, was arrested and charged with felony Litter Law violation.
The deputy was on patrol and observed a large pile of illegally disposed debris on a vacant lot at 20041 Buchanan Avenue. The debris consisted of living room furniture, a television and several bags of household trash. Several pieces of mail were found in the debris that led to a home in the 3400 block of Depew Avenue in Port Charlotte. The deputy and Charlotte County Code Enforcement Officer responded to the home and learned the owner made arrangements with Schramm to pick up trash at the home.
Schramm picked up the trash about two weeks ago and intended to dispose of it at the Charlotte County recycle and dump off site off Veterans Boulevard. When they arrived, it was closed. Schramm said he had other work to do and did not have time to deal with the trash in his friend’s truck so he dumped the trash on the vacant lot nearby.
Schramm was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail; he posted a $2,500 bond and was released. If anyone has information about illegal trash dumping, please call the CCSO at 941-639-2101.
