LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Police have released reports on Osmil Diaz, 39, and Modesto Guzman Jr., 32, who were arrested Wednesday evening and are facing multiple charges including grand theft, occupied burglary and resisting arrest.
According to police reports, an officer attempted to stop the suspects for speeding while traveling northbound on I-75 in a beige Toyota Camry. The Camry continued at a high speed and refused to pull over.
The officer followed the suspects all the way into a neighborhood, where the Camry eventually crashed into a curb and a light pole. The officer observed that the suspects had left the vehicle and were fleeing on foot.
Moments later, the officer observed the suspects exiting the garage of a residence in a different vehicle. According to police reports, the resident of the home was running after the car exclaiming that the men had just robbed her and were stealing her car.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but was unable to do so as it sped off. The stolen vehicle continued on down Treeline Blvd. until officers were able to pull a maneuver which disabled the fleeing vehicle. The suspects were apprehended on scene.
Investigation revealed that the Toyota Camry had also been stolen from the Miami-Dade area earlier that day.
The suspects are now facing charges of occupied burglary to a dwelling, petty theft, resisting arrest without violence and two counts of grand theft auto. Diaz was additionally charged with giving a false name to a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and two counts of felony fleeing eluding.
