PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Punta Gorda Police Detectives arrested 33?year?old David Paul Bamber Tuesday, on charges of exploitation of the elderly and grand theft.
The charges stem from an incident one year ago, at which time a 72?year?old Punta Gorda resident entered into a contract with Bamber to have his driveway painted and sealed. The victim agreed to pay Bamber $2,750, and Bamber agreed to complete the job within the month. Bamber, however, never performed the work.
Detectives arrested Bamber at the Charlotte County Jail, where he has been for the last several months on unrelated charges.
“Citizens are reminded to not pay for work ahead of time," stated Lt. Jim Kirdy. "Any legitimate contractor will tell you the same thing."
Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a similar crime can contact the Punta Gorda Police Department at (941) 639-4111.
