PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit detectives report a Venice man was transported to Charlotte County Jail Monday after being arrested on a CCSO arrest warrant for a Mar. 13 drug deal in Port Charlotte. Lashawn Juan “Hercules” Mitchell, 31, of 6372 Lapidus Road in North Port was arrested. He is charged with Sale and Delivery of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine, Fleeting to Elude Law Enforcement Officers, and Driving While License Revoked (felony Habitual Traffic Offender).
Mitchell set up a drug purchase with undercover Narcotics detective in a gas station parking lot at 829 Tamiami Trail near the Charlotte-Sarasota county line. Mitchell drove up to a gas pump in a grey Chevrolet Silverado pickup; the cash for cocaine was exchanged, and Mitchell sped off at a high rate of speed. Marked units followed the pickup but broke off a brief pursuit and notified North Port Police. The pickup was located the next day when NPPD received a suspicious vehicle call that matched the description of Mitchell’s pickup. Police located the locked pickup at a business parked off Toledo Blade about four miles from where the drug deal occurred in Charlotte County.
The pickup was rented by a Venice woman from Enterprise Rental Cars in Bradenton. A waiver of search was signed and evidence collected from inside the pickup. Mitchell was subsequently identified as “Hercules,” the man in the Cocaine drug deal. On June 14, a CCSO detective with the Fugitive Apprehension Unit assisted the Sarasota County Warrants Unit in making the arrest of Mitchell at 548 Briarwood Street, Venice. He has been in the SCSO Jail in the Venice Annex until being transferred Monday back to Charlotte County.
Mitchell remains in the Charlotte County Jail on no bond. Anyone with knowledge of illegal drug activity is asked to please call the CCSO Narcotics Unit at 941-575-2157, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
