PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- A Charlotte County Sheriff's detective arrested a Port Charlotte man after he attempted to buy items at a convenience store while standing near a uniformed deputy. Ryan Anthony Signore, 25, of 901 Jarvis Street, was arrested for Uttering Forged Bills.
Sunday at 7:10 p.m., a CCSO deputy was inside Rainbow Food Market, located at 2350 Harbor Boulevard, when he observed Signore attempting to purchase cigarettes and an iced tea with a poor quality $50 bill. The clerk confirmed it was counterfeit and would not accept the bill. Signore took back the fake bill, but the deputy stopped him and asked if he had any additional $50 dollar bills. Signore went to his vehicle outside followed by the deputy. Consent to search Signore’s car was given, and two more of the fake $50 bills were located.
The deputy also learned that Signore attempted to cash one of the bills at the Sonoco gas station at 2483 Tamiami Trail for gas and cigarettes but the clerk refused, telling him it was counterfeit. Detectives were called to further investigate.
Signore, a convicted felon, was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail and released on $2,500 bond.
