BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- Deputies arrested a Miami man wanted for a Bonita Springs theft dating back to 2010.
On February 3, 2010 Lee County deputies responded to the L.A. Fitness located at 8951 Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs, in reference to a recently occurred theft.
The victim stated while he was working out at the gym, an unknown person broke into his locker and stole his wallet. The victim stated he called his credit card company and learned it had been used immediately after it was stolen to purchase a Mac Book computer for $2,500 at a nearby electronics store.
Detectives with the Lee County Sheriff's Office Economic Crimes Unit assumed the investigation. During the investigation a Miami area man, 36-year-old Gerardo Porcell, was developed as a possible suspect who also committed similar crimes on Florida's east coast. Porcell was identified from the video inside the electronics store when he used the victim's stolen credit card to make the purchase. The store associate who assisted Porcell with the transaction also made a positive identification from a photo lineup.
ECU detectives learned Porcell had been arrested and was in custody in the Miami-Dade County Jail. Detectives completed a warrant request and submitted it to the State Attorney's Office for approval. The warrant was approved for the arrest of Porcell.
Porcell was transported to the Lee County Jail where the warrant was served, charging him with Grand Theft and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card.
