FORT MYERS, Fla.-  On Wednesday, following extensive media coverage, multiple tips were received by SW Florida Crime Stoppers identifying the subjects in the surveillance photos.

Detectives working the case prepared a photo lineup and the victim positively identified both of the subjects. Further investigation revealed 37-year-old John Joseph Curran acted alone in the theft. He was located and arrested on Thursday and transported to the Lee County Jail.

On May 10, 2012, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the ScubaVice Diving Center, 12600 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, for a report of a grand theft of a dive computer valued at $700.

An employee at the store told deputies he noticed an empty space on a display shelf so he began to review surveillance video. The video revealed that while a female customer distracted him, her male counterpart stole the dive computer and concealed it in his pants.

The stolen computer was a Suunto Cobra Dive Computer.
