PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested a Port Charlotte hotel housekeeper for stealing two checks from a customer’s room and depositing them into her savings account. Ashley Sierra Brosnfield, 24, of 21150 Gertrude Avenue, was arrested for the crime.
On Mar. 31, CCSO responded to the Days Inn, 1941 Tamiami Trail, when the victim reported two checks were missing from his checkbook left in his room when he went out. His bank alerted him that one check was cashed but the signature did not match his on file. The victim checked his bank account on line and provided a copy of the check which was written payable to Bronsfield in the amount of $600.
Detectives said Bronsfield was assigned to clean the victim’s hotel room; there was no sign of forced entry. In a lengthy subpoena process, detectives were finally able to access Bronsfield’s accounts. It showed she deposited the stolen $600 check in an ATM machine at a bank on Olean Boulevard in Port Charlotte on Mar. 30.
Thursday, detectives made contact with Bronsfield to confront her with the facts of their investigation. The interview ended when she wanted to speak to her attorney. She was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail. Bronsfield is charged with Grand Theft, Uttering a Forged Check, and Theft of Personal Property from a Hotel/Motel. Bronsfield has been booked into the County Jail six times and is a twice convicted felon; she posted $7,500 bond and was released.
