FORT MYERS, Fla.- A woman answered an ad in the Lee County Shopper for a position as a personal assistant only to find that the ad was a scam, and her bank account was wiped clean.
The suspect contacted the victim via E-mail after she responded to the ad. He told her he would be sending her a check and instructed her to deposit it into her account, according to police reports. He told her to take 10 percent for herself and to Western Union the rest of the balance to his attorney, which she did.
Two days later, the victim was notified by her bank that her account was overdrawn. The victim had sent the attorney $2,000 and all remaining funds were also removed from her account. No arrests have been made at this point.
